I first started with Historic Military Vehicles in a different way than most others in the club. In 1985 when I moved to New England I started spending a lot of time with my Uncle helping him with his hobby restoring Antique Military Airplanes. I really wanted to get my pilots license and this was a good start. While working on these machines, I really got an appreciation of the history involved in them and realized that most people only get to see these things in history books, movies, or museums. I started participating in Airshows all over New England.
One day while walking across the airport, I stopped to help someone push their airplane into a hanger. There in the back of the hanger covered with trash sat an old Army jeep. I thought this would be great fun to restore and have at airshows as our ground transport. I found out that the jeep had not moved in at least 20 years, and who the owner was. A friend and I approached the owner to see if he would sell it to us. Much to our suprise he told us we could have it. Well we restored that old jeep (a 1952 M-38), and had a lot of fun with it. Years later I was wishing I still had that old jeep, and started looking for another. What I found was a 1953 M-37 (Dodge ¾ ton truck). That needed some love. Since then I have become involved with the MVMVC and found a great bunch of friends.
